Masala (contact) - Who we are - See and hear

Where we come from

Masala was born in 2010 when Piet Haven (vocals, bass), Raph Van Goubergen (vocals, piano), Pieter Dedoncker (drums) and Andries Baele (vocals, violin) – all fellow musicians of the jazz cover band Someone Els – decided to create their own repertoire. From the beginning it was decided not to commit themselves to just one style, but rather to give free rein to all inspiration and fantasies.

The first years were devoted to writing songs and creating a show inspired on an imaginary tribe, the Masalians. An album, March of the Masalians, was published in 2015 followed by several concert tours.

In 2017, guitarist Arthur Maes joined the band. And in 2018 Sébastien Peeters replaced Pieter (who moved to Firenze, Italia) on drums. New songs and a new show called Heads or Tales were created, followed by the Ouroboros Tour in 2019.

Life (and the 2020 pandemic) called Andries and Arthur to go explore new horizons. As soon as the successive periods of confinement were over, Piet, Raph and Sébastien started to rearrange the old songs and to compose new ones, with Sébastien now also playing vibraphone. Maxine Dumont came to complete the band’s repertoire with her own compositions and with her unique and versatile voice.
